When we look at a sagebrush part of us imagines what it is like to be that plant. I imagine heat and cold and long dry times. So I see energy and spirit in the desert plants that finds it's way into the marks I make in a painting.
There's something similar in an abstract painting. There is something that it feels like to red a red line, there is a way that our eyes tend to move across it. So we name it concrete, but really it is the mind made concrete in the movements of a brush.
